Orientation Days UP 2022

With the start of a new semester, the University of Primorska organises the event Orientation Days for all international students. The September events are usually larger and are attended by both full-time students and international exchange students, the Orientations Days in February are predominately attended by exchange students.

Orientation Days are an excellent opportunity for international students to get to know both their new surroundings and the people who will be part of their study life. This is how they get all the key information about the University of Primorska. An important part of the reception is also the assistance provided with the relevant forms and documents need for the Administrative Unit.

They met with representatives from ŠOUP (Student organisation of University of Primorska) who presented all the extracurricular activities. They learned their first words in Slovene and they met our tutors - both at the faculties and from the Erasmus Student Network (ESN), who will support them with relevant information during their studies.

ESN member Jelena, a student of Biopsychology at UP Famnit, was among the volunteers who helped at the event on the first study day: "It was the first time I helped as part of the organising team of the Orientation Days, and it was a truly amazing experience. I am grateful for such a valuable experience that will be helpful in my future work and of course the opportunity to meet and work with such lovely people."

The students got to know their surroundings both through the traditional Treasure Hunt around Koper, during which they get to know the key places to live and study in the city, and by visiting the activities of the European Researchers' Night. The programme is rounded off by a trip to the Škocjan Caves on Saturday.

For Katerina, an Erasmus exchange student from Poland, the first impression of Slovenia was very positive: "It's my first day in Slovenia and I really loved today, I had a great time, everyone was very friendly, and I loved the weather we had. I can already say I really like Slovenia."

Nearly 230 students from 23 countries participated in this year's Orientation Days. The largest number of foreign students who have decided to study full-time at the University of Primorska come from North Macedonia, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Students that will spend a semester with us within the Erasmus+ network come from Spain, Italy, the Czech Republic, and Portugal.

You can watch a short video about the reception and the events on the first day.
