Opening of the University Library UP

On Monday, October 2, 2023, the University Library of the University of Primorska opened its doors to students, employees, and the wider public.

The event commenced with a warm welcome from the Director of the University Library, Associate Professor Jonatan Vinkler, emphasizing the library's significance for the academic community, education, and the broader environment. UP Rector, Professor Klavdija Kutnar, and Aleš Bržan, the Mayor of the Municipality of Koper, then ceremoniously cut the ribbon at the entrance of the former Kolosej cinema located at Trubarjeva 1 in the heart of Koper, which now houses the library.

The University Library at Trubarjeva 1 offers collections from all UP faculties, except UP FTŠ Turistica, which operates at a different location. This allows users free access to 60,000 physical books, approximately 30,000 scientific journals in electronic format, and 260,000 e-books, all available for contactless borrowing throughout the week.

A significant feature of the new University Library are its reading spaces, which operate 24/7, every day of the year, for all registered library users. Additionally, the library will host regular events and exhibitions. While primarily catering to UP professors and students, the library is also open for external users who adhere to the library's terms of service.
